Small Ruminants

When it comes to efficient pregnancy diagnosis in small ruminants ReproScan equipment is second to none. We offer simple, non-invasive techniques.

Small Ruminants (Camelids, Sheep, Goats, Deer, Elk)   Llamas, alpacas, sheep and goats can be pregnancy tested with ultrasound equipment.   The best equipment to use will depend on the stage of gestation and the method that you wish to use.  Alpacas and llamas can be pregnancy tested with “arm in animal” between 30 and 90 days after breeding similar to a cow if one’s arm is small enough.  Extension arm ultrasound can be used in alpacas and llamas.

Ideally sheep and goats are scanned at a stage of gestation (45 to 80 days) when multiple fetuses can be detected accurately. Recommended ultrasound units for scanning sheep and goats are the BoviScan S60, ReproScan Flexx with a C60 T handled probe.  The 4.0 MHz convex rectal probe on the ReproScan XTC, BoviScan Curve and ReproScan Flexx will work well in most situations.  Please contact ReproScan for further information about ultrasound equipment for your sheep or goats operation.

Scanning farmed deer and elk is often done with ultrasound equipment.  Ultrasound equipment such as the ReproScan XTC and BoviScan Curve used with the ReproScan 2.0 Wireless Monitor to display the image and a ReproArm to hold the 4.0 MHz convex rectal probe works well.
