It is coming up on that time of year again—the time of year when we get asked time and time again, “How early can I preg check with ultrasound?” If you have been in one of our classes, you know that this often leads to a lengthier discussion. I often turn around and ask why we want to preg early, and are we rechecking them due to the potential for early embryonic death loss.
Remember preg checking season is just around the corner. Did you have a loose cable last year, a battery that no longer lasts as long as it once did, or missing flaps? Now is a great time to send it in before preg season gets rolling. Did you know that one of the best ways to ensure the longevity of your machine is to send it in every 2-3 years for a service check?
May marks the end of typical spring calving season, and maybe, for you, it was a dream, a breeze, similar relaxation levels to a tropical vacation. But maybe it wasn’t. Maybe heifers started calving a month before you expected, or your AI rates were vastly underwhelming. Maybe you had 3 more sets of twins than you were expecting, resulting in multiple c-sections, or far more opens than last year. Or did you have a group that you fed all winter long that showed up open?
